View from the Pit 2016 week 13

Week 13 is here, and with it we’ll be saying goodbye to six teams till 2017, seems a long way away the now but it rolls around quick dont you think?

week 12 saw the Saints clock up some awesome numbers, though one Brandin cooks must be wondering what he did wrong to not be a part of the actions, anyway, here’s the meters with one of the most sampled songs ever.

Avengers at Jaguars

7-5 Kelsae Avengers face off against the 11-1 Jimmy’s Jerman Jaguars at Greendale Stadium.
Kelsae Avengers were led in week 12 by a 22.40 point effort from Mike Evans. In addition, David Johnson was not injured before the start of his week 12 game, and contributed 22.10 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 13 due to an injured finger , which might severely limit his fantasy production.

Jimmy’s Jerman Jaguars were led in week 12 by a 23.12 point effort from Aaron Rodgers. In addition, Lamar Miller was not injured before the start of his week 12 game, and contributed 6.50 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 13 due to an injured ankle , which might severely limit his fantasy production.

In week 3, Jimmy’s Jerman Jaguars defeated Kelsae Avengers by 37.88 points, so coach Stuart is looking for revenge this week. In the 2-year history of this rivalry, Kelsae Avengers hold a 1-2-0 all-time series record against Jimmy’s Jerman Jaguars.

Jimmy’s run finally came to an unceremonious end last week, with the Jags posting their lowest score of the year, and plenty of points on the bench. However, that’s just academic as they’ve been safely through for a while now.

Avengers have to win to be sure of a wildcard slot, and 8-5 would have been enough to take any of the other divisions, so Stuart will be raging if by shear fluke he doesn’t make it. But beating jimmy may be enough encouragement he needs for this week in any case. Jimmy Graham and David Johnson will surely get some points on the board with their #1 rankings for the week, neither has disappointed too often this season. Cam Newton is a bit lower down the pecking order this week, and there could be a waiver option there for coach Stuart if he’s prepared to take that risk. All in all this looks like a great lineup though, Stuart has maybe had a bit more luck than some with injuries, but the team has solidified and almost everyone in it is punching above their draft position.

Jimmy can rest easy if he likes, now that the chance for a perfect season is done. But unless he drops all of his players there is a formidable lineup somewhere here for sure. WR has taken a bit of a dent, but there’s still options and Moncreif Shepard and Boyd are surely guaranteed a TD between them – but who to leave out? RB is not a lot easier, but perhaps all of the 4 possibles will more than likely net a TD and/or 100 yards, so less of a problem for Jimmy in choosing. Eifert was left on the Bench ch last week but Zach Ertz didn’t really show that hes capable of putting a consistent score up,so expect the Bengal to be back in the squad.

This game likely doesn’t matter too much, but its still Stuart who wants the victory more, to ensure a better run at the payoffs, given the lineups,  i think that’s likely. There’s not really anyone else who cares too much about this result, it will affect someone somehow, but you’ll need to look at the other post for that one.

187s at 69ers

8-4 Kelso 187’s play the 6-6 SanFran-Gordon 69ers at Castle Greyskull.

Kelso 187’s were led in week 12 by a 21.70 point effort from Dak Prescott. In addition, Chris Ivory was not injured before the start of his week 12 game, and contributed 11.50 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 13 due to an injured hamstring , which might severely limit his fantasy production.

SanFran-Gordon 69ers were led in week 12 by a 21.50 point effort from Jordan Reed.

187s have clinched their spot and can maybe take it easy, but they have the chance to ruin Richie’s season and leave him waiting for next year. Its not over for Richie with a loss, but it will be a much more complicated route, reliant on several other games.

Euan’s 187s are riding high, but they only have the 6th best scoring this year and have never had the top in a week, there’s been a couple of blips on the scorecard too, so this is by no means plain sailing. Euan needs a DST too, there’s plenty on the wire, but choosing could be  a challenge. Melvin Gordon and Odell Beckham will surely get somewhere north of 30 between them, leaving the rest here to pick up perhaps 70 points between the7 of them. Dak Prescott is pretty much a shoe in for his share, but no one else has the same guarantee.

69ers are still struggling despite their top 3 score on the year. A big chunk of that average came in just week 4 though, only 4 of the other weeks have been over 100. Julio Jones  and Doug Baldwin are the big stars here, and have been outstanding most of the season. Demarco Murray and Terelle Prior on a bye in the last game is bad timing, but there’s no excuse for not making plans to cope with that. Carlos Hyde should put up better than average numbers but can Damian Williams or Robert Turbin come close to their regulation 10 points, not without a TD I’d suggest.

This game could be close, but I’m giving it to 187s given that they have the advantage at RB, and therefore likely to see consistent yards. It could easily go the other way if Richie’s WR end up chasing their games, a 50 yd TD for example could swing this tie Richie’s way.

Bohemians at Fire

6-6 Earlstonian Bohemians play the 4-8 Fife Fire at Balbirnie Stadium.
Earlstonian Bohemians were led in week 12 by a 22.80 point effort from Michael Thomas,

Fife Fire were led in week 12 by a 33.50 point effort from Drew Brees.

Even the bot has very little to say about this game. Fire have just not got going in 2016, and have now lost any chance of a playoff spot, that could be good news for the Bohos though who need this win badly to have a chance.
Ally’s Boho’s are looking pretty comfortable, with their formidable RB team and Russell Wilson seemingly back on form there’s a good chance of a playoff spot. WR is less secure, Thomas, Watkins and Diggs are surely in the mix for a spot this week, and any one of them capable of the big plays given a chance. We could see yet more changes with a streamer for TE or DST, but Bennet and the Ravens should be more than capable of getting at least a few points on the board.

Fire have the dubious honour of having the lowest score 4 times this season – there’s not really any rhyme or reason to that, as the rankings suggest this team to be comfortably mid table, but for whatever reason they’ve just not fired on all cylinders. This week though, Drew Brees is ranked #1 and that can perhaps set the spark to see the Fire go out with a bang? unfortunately, so one else in the squad is ranked within the top 10 and that will mean short yardage with just the outside chance of TDs for the team. With no one there who’s averaging 15 or more, it really needs everyone to get lucky the same week to see a win. That could happen, and of course, there has been some bad luck for Shaun, so perhaps he’s due something this week?

The prediction is for a Boho win by some margin, but if Shaun uses some of his vast waiver fortune in the morning, no one can stop him picking up exactly who he wants, a TE and a new DST have to be high on that list for a start.

Fog at Panthers

6-6 Fog on the Tyne challenge the 6-6 Pilton Panthers at Pilton Park.
Fog on the Tyne were led in week 12 by a 19.70 point effort from Devonta Freeman. In addition, Rob Gronkowski was not injured before the start of his week 12 game, and contributed 0.00 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 13 due to an injured back , which might severely limit his fantasy production. Fog on the Tyne can expect a 18.76 point effort from Derek Carr in week 13.

Pilton Panthers were led in week 12 by a 30.16 point effort from Kirk Cousins. In addition, Gary Barnidge was not injured before the start of his week 12 game, and contributed 1.10 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 13 due to an injured knee , which might severely limit his fantasy production.

In the 3-year history of this rivalry, Fog on the Tyne hold a 2-2-0 all-time series record against Pilton Panthers.

Fog could go through even at the bottom of their division, but they really need this win to happen for them. the rankings suggest that they are marginally behind Panthers at most positions, but its not a chasm, and of course Panther need to pick up a TE from the wire – with a few folk looking that way too, that could be harder than it appears. Adrian Peterson is apparently close to return, but surely it will not be this week, meaning Freeman and Forte should get starts, there’s 150 yards and a TD between them with any justice, so that averages out at regulation 10 pts. Edelmann and Cole Beasley look not quite so safe, Beasley in particular has gone from the darling of the waiver wire to not a look in just over  a month, can he pick it up for Fog in this last regular season game?

Panthers are finishing well, and a win this weekend clinches a place without worrying about anyone else. Lesean Mccoy and Jordy Nelson should be the ones to get the bulk of the points this week, but any gaps in their perform ace will open a big hole for the Fog to come in. Cousins is on a roll, but that doesn’t mean he’s guaranteed a start over Pip Rivers, who faces a slightly easier matchup in week 13, a tough choice for Rab, there’s bound to be advice out there on the web, but in the end it will be the higher scoring game that is likely to give the higher scoring QB, and Rab has to hope he picks wisely. Picking up a TE could be problematic this week, as there are several people in the league in the same position, Rab has a budget, but it will be finding a player who can score big that is the problem.

This looks close. A big scoring game would be a fine end for both these seasons, but not satisfactory if you don’t make the playoffs, and I don’t think they both can.

Pirates at Earthquakes

6-6 Tweedbank Pirates play the 3-9 Earlston Earthquakes at The Cauldie.
Tweedbank Pirates were led in week 12 by a 17.46 point effort from Carson Wentz. In addition, T.Y. Hilton was not injured before the start of his week 12 game, and contributed 5.40 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 13 due to an injured back , which might severely limit his fantasy production.

Earlston Earthquakes were led in week 12 by a 33.14 point effort from Colin Kaepernick.

In week 3, Tweedbank Pirates defeated Earlston Earthquakes by 64.84 points, so coach Cozy is looking for revenge this week. In the 4-year history of this rivalry, Tweedbank Pirates hold a 3-4-0 all-time series record against Earlston Earthquakes.

Pirates can go through with a win here and with the Quakes out already that is possible. However Paul has to get past an angry Cozy to do that. The wind has gone from the Pirates sails somewhat over the last few weeks, sure there have been wins and a great score in week 11, but its been around 70 most of the last month or so. Todd Gurley is surely guaranteed an RB start but as for the other slot and a flex, there’s a load of slightly scrappy players to choose from. Its likely at least one of them will have a decent game, but predicting it could be tricky. Hilton Fitzgerald and perhaps Cobb are maybe more secure in their WR positions and Kelce has proved his worth as a TE receiver too.

It all came together for the quakes over the last two weeks, that’s a bit of a kick in the teeth when you are out so fair play for sticking with it. Cozy has the advantage this week for sure though, the Quakes can field higher ranked players at most positions except QB and TE, WR2 could be the only spot where Paul has a significant advantage. There’s not really any need for waivers, though both teams have inexplicably ended up with kickers ranked in the 20‘s, not that it matters too much for kickers, but there will be free for all waiver kickers that are available come 10:00 tomorrow. Mark Ingram, Amari copper and the Pats DST shout lead the scoring for Cozy, with Kaepernick putting in a decent week at QB too.

Paul might be pleading that this one doesn’t matter to Cozy, but if the last two weeks are anything to go by that will fall on deaf ears, and if he sets his prime lineup Cozy looks likely to burst Paul’s bubble.

Tigers at Pickaxe

4-8 Tranent Tigers, who hope to end their 4 game losing streak, play the 5-7 Nitten Pickaxe at New Victoria Park.
Tranent Tigers were led in week 12 by a 27.10 point effort from Antonio Brown. Tranent Tigers can expect a 15.83 point effort from Tom Brady in week 13.

Nitten Pickaxe were led in week 12 by a 24.00 point effort from Ezekiel Elliott, who got by the Washington Redskins defense for 97 rushing yards and 2 rushing TDs in addition to 23 receiving yards.

In week 3, Nitten Pickaxe defeated Tranent Tigers by 41.40 points, so coach Nicky is looking for revenge this week. In the 3-year history of this rivalry, Tranent Tigers hold a 2-3-0 all-time series record against Nitten Pickaxe.

Last but not least Nicky’s Tigers take on Gav’s Pickaxe. The Tigers have lost their teeth a bit come the end of the season and its all over for them. Tom Brady and Antonio Brown have been the sole highlights in an otherwise lacking season, just two weeks over 100 and quite a few less than 75. If there are going to be points this week, they will surely come in the air from Brady, Brown, Demaryius Thomas and Vance Macdonald. Bibbs and Langford at RB are looking likely to be TD dependant for anything like a regulation 10 points, but of course stranger things have happened.

Gav’s season is reliant on this and the Panthers Game. That’s a decent shot at the division though, and as usual there’s a pretty good chance at 90-100 pts in the squad. Last weeks kicker and DST points were a massive bonus, and the lack of a single look form Brandin Cooks is a huge worry if he’s done something to upset Brees, but there doesn’t seem to be any explanation online as to what happened, with their monster score, it surely wasn’t just luck and coverage that saw him left out?  Zeke Elliot and Dez Brant on the other hand continue to score well. Bryant is missing the TDs but is putting up good yardage and seems to be getting a fair share of the looks from Dak Prescott. Ben Roethlisberger seems to be back in decent form, whilst alternative Matt Ryan is just passable, Big Ben likely to get the start for this final regular season week.

With that, we’ll be saying goodbye to 6 of these teams till next year, as we will only be focusing on the competitive games from now on.

View From the Pit 2016 – Week 12

Week 12 is here – 1 team through and 1 team out – there’s still all to play for for everyone else.

Week 11 saw a monster score from Washington. Hmmm, its thanksgiving too. Now America, you’ve been a bit disappointing over the last few weeks – maybe  look at where you are going and stop treading on the wee guys eh?

Bohemians at Pirates

5-6 Earlstonian Bohemians challenge the 6-5 Tweedbank Pirates at Gun Knowe Stadium.

Earlstonian Bohemians were led in week 11 by a 26.10 point effort from Le’Veon Bell,

Tweedbank Pirates were led in week 11 by a 20.00 point effort from the Minnesota Vikings.

In week 2, Tweedbank Pirates defeated Earlstonian Bohemians by 0.44 points, so coach Ally is looking for revenge this week. In the 4-year history of this rivalry, Earlstonian Bohemians hold a 4-5-0 all-time series record against Tweedbank Pirates.

Ally must surely have forgiven Russell Wilson for his less than 10 pt outing a month ago, 3 25 pt game sin a row have to get a QB back in the good books? Added to that Leveon Bell is coming off two monster games and looks in great form, particularly with Ben Roethlisberger back from injury meaning defenses have to think about the pass too. Really you’ve got to think that very little on the Bohos team will change, apart from as ever streaming a DST for the week. All the offensive players are ranked in the top 15 and that’s going to be a lot for anyone to challenge this week.

Paul has come down pretty hard after a great start to the season, and meets Ally perhaps on the way up. Only one of these teams can go through to the playoffs for sure- but there is a chance for both to make it through wildcard. Todd Gurley and Rashad Jennings look solid at RB1 and 2 but will possibly come up 50 yards shorter than the Bohos pairing – so need some Tds as well, not impossible. Its the same story at WR but they are petty evenly matched to the Bohos pair – expect a good 150 yds between them. Flex could be the let down here, there’s really nothing on the squad to compete with one of Ally’s top Rbs, and there will need to be more than a little luck to get 10 pts here. The Vikings could be the ace in the hole though – cooing off a 20 pt game and being the 4th highest scorer on the Pirates roster

All in all, it looks like Ally has the advantage at most positions, but the Vikings and a lucky break at WR could seal the deal for Paul’s Pirates.

The rest of the league must surely now want a Pirates win to open up the other wildcard slot – A win for Ally could put both teams through.

Panthers at Tigers

5-6 Pilton Panthers play the 4-7 Tranent Tigers at Polson Park.

Pilton Panthers were led in week 11 by a 27.40 point effort from Kirk Cousins. In addition, LeSean McCoy was not injured before the start of his week 11 game, and contributed 10.50 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 12 due to an injured thumb , which might severely limit his fantasy production. Pilton Panthers can expect a 16.70 point effort from Kirk Cousins in week 12.

Tranent Tigers were led in week 11 by a 28.40 point effort from Tom Brady. In addition, Ryan Mathews was not injured before the start of his week 11 game, and contributed 3.10 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 12 due to an injured knee , which might severely limit his fantasy production.

In week 2, Tranent Tigers defeated Pilton Panthers by 7.42 points, so coach Rab is looking for revenge this week. In the 3-year history of this rivalry, Pilton Panthers hold a 4-1-0 all-time series record against Tranent Tigers.

Panthers are fresh off a divisional win and are maybe smelling blood or the light at the end of the divisional tunnel. However, it was no in any way a league winning score last week and things will have to tighten up if the Panthers are to take the division. Things look a wee bit shoogly for Rab’s Panthers, barring Jordy Nelson there are no players ranked in the top 10 this week, rankings mean nothing if you get the matchups though. LeSean McCoy and Tevin Coleman, though not looking stellar this week are both higher ranked than anything Nicky can offer – they are perhaps looking at 150-200 yds between them but if they can capitalise with a couple of Tds that would be a huge advantage for Rab.

Nicky has just had a bit of bad luck – though the signs were there for Antonio Brown and Big Ben last weekend – both of them really underperformed and that could mean the end of the season for the Tigers. This week Brown and Brady are ranked #1 again – and surely Antonio Brown will want some of those TD passes. Rishard Matthews at Flex could be a good option this week with a reasonable match up against the Bears – tough choice to put him in over Devante Adams though – one of them should score for sure. Gostkowski and the choice of 2 DSTs round things out nicely for Nicky – and should be good for maybe 12-15 between them – perhaps expect a DST to go in the waivers in the morning, if Nicky can still afford to pick anyone up.

This game could decide Shatner – or leave it wide open again – the rest of the league perhaps wanting a Panthers win to leave Pickaxe and Tigers in the dust – but certainly Gav and Nicky need a Tigers win badly.

Fire at 187s

4-7 Fife Fire play the 7-4 Kelso 187’s at Compton Palace.

Fife Fire were led in week 11 by a 16.40 point effort from Drew Brees. In addition, Theo Riddick was not injured before the start of his week 11 game, and contributed 8.30 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 12 due to an injured ankle , which might severely limit his fantasy production.

Kelso 187’s were led in week 11 by a 25.64 point effort from Dak Prescott.

In week 2, Kelso 187’s defeated Fife Fire by 20.00 points, so coach Shaun is looking for revenge this week. In the 2-year history of this rivalry, Fife Fire hold a 2-1-0 all-time series record against Kelso 187’s.

Its the brotherly no love lost bowl again – 20 pts is a bit of a stinger for Shaun, but then the season hasn’t really panned out as well as expected – there’s a couple of interesting waiver picks around this week and Shaun has the cash to guarantee one of them at least – and he’d still have $40 for next week. That money is going to be be burning a hole in the Fire pockets at the end of the season though – really there’s nothing in the lineup or the waivers that looks a dead cert to take on the brother. Riddick, West, Marshall and Hopkins can perhaps expect 250 yds between them plus maybe a TD – any more than that is looking sketchy and will need a bit of luck. Fire have maybe traded away just at the wrong times this year – Aaron Rogers is outscoring Brees over the season for a start. Its looking a bit of a smouldering wreckage for the Fire at the end of this season.

187s couldn’t get across the line last week – but have another chance to seal the deal in week 12. Dak Prescott is probing himself quite a star – and consistently performing above his already quite high rank – it seems no ‘real pundit’s will believe that a rookie can end the season top 5. Gordon an Beckham have proved their worth over and again this season for Euan’s 187s and that should continue in week 12. Kelvin Benjamin has perhaps taken a wee bit of a tumble after his great season start – but there must be some more TDs in there somewhere. The rest of the squad leaves some choices at RB2, WR and Flex, but you’ve got to suspect that Michael Crabtree is in the mix as well. There’s 40 pts in yards from any number of RBs and WRs here – it will be a case of who is more likely to score those TDs that determines the lineup, and there will be a big bench score for sure.

The rest of the league has to be hoping for the 187s to seal the deal – again leaving a wildcard space open for anyone else, that looks likely this week for sure – the 187s just look too strong for the Fire.

Fog at Avengers

6-5 Fog on the Tyne face off against the 6-5 Kelsae Avengers at Samuel Sawyer Memorial Park.

Fog on the Tyne were led in week 11 by a 21.60 point effort from Derek Carr. Fog on the Tyne can expect a 20.84 point effort from Derek Carr in week 12.

Kelsae Avengers were led in week 11 by a 28.00 point effort from David Johnson. In addition, Thomas Rawls was not injured before the start of his week 11 game, and contributed 8.80 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 12 due to an injured undisclosed , which might severely limit his fantasy production.

In week 2, Fog on the Tyne defeated Kelsae Avengers by 12.94 points, so coach Stuart is looking for revenge this week. In the 2-year history of this rivalry, Fog on the Tyne hold a 3-0-0 all-time series record against Kelsae Avengers.

Its Stu vs Stu again for the wildcard spot in Fog are riding their luck a little in Uhura – Avengers are outscoring them most of the season, just not in the games that matter leaving Fog in front by a nose. The sad news for both these teams is that only one of them can go through – and even then only as a wildcard as Jimmy has it all sewn up. Avengers have to win both this and the last game against Jimmy to stand a chance, where Stuart can get through with one win out of the 2.

fog have been very inconsistent over the season, but have made their wins count. This last stretch could be a bit too far though, there’s only so much that Gronk can do, he’s not the talisman he’s been over the last 3 seasons. Derek Carr Looks serviceable this week – but he’s not really performing better than you might expect from a streaming QB, sop there could be a change there – certainly Stuart can afford a wee bid in the waivers.

Avengers have also just been too up and down all season. David Johnson is interesting as the only player in the whole league to be averaging more than the teams QB over the season, and still yet to post anything below 10 – proving his 1st round status and likely cementing it for 2017 too. Jimmy Graham is in the mix too, the rest of the league collectively trying to forget the giggles that greeted his pick in the later rounds of the draft. Whilst they cant be cocky, Avengers have the advantage pretty much everywhere except flex kicker and DST – and event them they are not far behind.

The rest of the league really want neither of them to win – but surely Stuart is the best hope – facing as he does Jimmy next week.

Jaguars at Pickaxe

11-0 Jimmy’s Jerman Jaguars, who hope to extend their 11 game winning streak, challenge the 4-7 Nitten Pickaxe at New Victoria Park.

Jimmy’s Jerman Jaguars were led in week 11 by a 29.34 point effort from Aaron Rodgers. In addition, A.J. Green was not injured before the start of his week 11 game, and contributed 0.00 points, but he’s listed as out in week 12 due to an injured hamstring , which might severely limit his fantasy production.

Nitten Pickaxe were led in week 11 by a 20.00 point effort from Dez Bryant.

This is the first game between these two franchises in 2016, and is sure to be a epic battle. In the 3-year history of this rivalry, Jimmy’s Jerman Jaguars hold a 3-2-0 all-time series record against Nitten Pickaxe.

Jimmy rolled on to yet another victory in week 11, but it has cost him a starting WR in AJ Green. To be fair Green wasn’t contributing a huge amount of the Jags points in any case – and there are waiver picks that might replace him – Jimmy will have to wait till after 9.00 though – as there’s no money left in the biscuit tin. Aaron Rogers was a great trade at a great time for Jimmy, he’s outscored Carson Wentz, who he replaced, by more than 10 pts a game. Miller Gore Howard and Martin are surely all in the mix for a starting spot this week – $86 is a lot of fantasy dough to spend on a benchwarmer but that could well be the case this week as the others have pretty good matchups.

Gav is cursing his luck this season – week 11 went past with a perfect chance to prove the Pickaxe formula – only to get beaten by a well below standard 80 pts. The silver lining is the Cowboys in the squad, Dez Bryant and Zeke Elliot seem to gel well with Dak Prescott and they are sure to keep their spots this week. Jeremy hills run of TDs came to an abrupt end last week – but with a season ending injury to Giovani Bernard there could be more touches for him – is he fit enough to handle that pace is a big question, Pickaxe are pretty much forced to try their luck with him. Brandin cooks and Greg Olsen can surely only get better from last weeks Thursday night effort.

All in all this is a must win for Gav, but the rest of the league are still hoping for Jimmy’s run to continue – we have to ask if their priorities are right here – we cannot have an unbeaten season yet – what’s left to play for next year? We’ll expect big cheers for Pickaxe come Sunday evening.

Earthquakes at 69ers

2-9 Earlston Earthquakes challenge the 6-5 SanFran-Gordon 69ers at Castle Greyskull.

Earlston Earthquakes were led in week 11 by a 31.70 point effort from Rob Kelley. In addition, C.J. Prosisewas not injured before the start of his week 11 game, and contributed 14.10 points, but he’s listed as out in week 12 due to an injured shoulder , which might severely limit his fantasy production.

SanFran-Gordon 69ers were led in week 11 by a 22.00 point effort from the Steelers In addition, Andrew Luck was not injured before the start of his week 11 game, and contributed 18.68 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 12 due to an injured concussion , which might severely limit his fantasy production.

This is the first game between these two franchises in 2016, and is sure to be a classic showdown. In the 3-year history of this rivalry, Earlston Earthquakes hold a 2-1-0 all-time series record against SanFran-Gordon 69ers.

Oh dear Earthquakes, Its finally coming together, but just too late, Rob Kelly had some effort last week and that might push him forward for more yards – but he’s ranked just 15th in RBs this week – giving him more like 80yds and a possible 1 TD. Those rankings mean not a lot in the heat of the game though – so there’s no reason at all it couldn’t be more. Amari Copper and the Pts DST are the other highlights this week for Cozy. The rest of the skill players should make up around 300 yds and have a reasonable chance of a couple of TDs between them all. Kaep at QB is maybe not the best available choice this week, and there’s money in the pot for the Quakes to perhaps get a last chance QB to ruin a couple of folks seasons.

69ers are close – a win here should get them at least a wildcard spot – and there’s still a chance of the division. Demarco Murray and Julio Jones are the stars here, and show no real signs of slowing down – they are perhaps not the highest averaging pair across the league but they have been consistent – though Julio has had 2 less than 5 pt performances too – so chickens should not be counted just yet. Doug Baldwin could end up being a great late season pickup for Richie and last weeks effort certainly helped the niners cause. He’ll likely start again and put a good 100 yds on the board give or take a TD.

A win for the Quakes would please everyone except Richie – but the stats say no. However that has been the case all season and its not really panned out that way for the niners – so anything could happen here

View From the Pit 2016 – week 11

Week 11 is here – 1 team definitely through and 1 team definitely eliminated. for the rest of us, its all still to play for. Theres still some action to be had on the waivers too – so its still all to play for – especially now that there’s a ig difference in waiver budgets left.

Week 1 saw the Titans  clock up a monster 47 pts.

and with that we’re on to our own action

Uhura:

Jaguars at Fog

10-0 Jimmy’s Jerman Jaguars, who hope to extend their 10 game winning streak, face off against the 6-4 Fog on the Tyne at New St James Park.

Jimmy’s Jerman Jaguars were led in week 10 by a 27.54 point effort from Aaron Rodgers. In addition, Jordan Howard was not injured before the start of his week 10 game, and contributed 9.00 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 11 due to an injured ankle , which might severely limit his fantasy production. Jimmy’s Jerman Jaguars can expect a 19.60 point effort from Aaron Rodgers in week 11.

Fog on the Tyne were led in week 10 by a 22.14 point effort from Joe Flacco. In addition, Michael Floyd was not injured before the start of his week 10 game, and contributed 10.10 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 11 due to an injured neck , which might severely limit his fantasy production.

In week 1, Jimmy’s Jerman Jaguars defeated Fog on the Tyne by 33.34 points, so coach Stuart is looking for revenge this week. In the 4-year history of this rivalry, Jimmy’s Jerman Jaguars hold a 7-1-0 all-time series record against Fog on the Tyne.

Jimmys $86 investment way back in week 4 could finally be paying off, with Doug Martin doing pretty well with his limited snaps for the Buccs last week. Much as I’m sure they’d like to keep him protected, they’ve really no one else to turn with a string of further injuries. In fact, Martin may be the #1 RB for the Jags this week ,but that’s just the start – there’s a good chance of a team all ranked in the top 15 this week for Jimmy, and although he’s guaranteed that bye in the playoffs he’ll no doubt be looking to extend the unbroken run of victories. AJ Green and Allen Robinson at WR give him a pretty good chance of that.

Fog on the other hand have a world of problems with bye weeks, Devonta Freeman and Matt Forte out this week will leave a big hole in the Fog Lineup. Stuart also needs a kicker, but that will likely wait till the free agency period, as he maybe hopes to bring in a bye week stud. Jacquizz Rogers will likely be just sitting on the bench taunting the rest of Fog as Doug Martin gets all his touches. Edelman and Beasly have a decent shout at 150 yds and a TD between them, but surely no match for Green and Robinson on the Jags side.

This doesn’t bode well for Stuart, unless he just lucks out with either just a stellar game for one of his or perhaps an injury for Jimmy, this is going to the Jags all the way.

What does the rest of the league want? With Jimmy already through and others maybe wanting him to use up all his luck now its got to be a win for the Jags, but really, no one would be that disappointed to see Jimmy’s run stopped now

TJ Hooker

69ers at Fire

5-5 SanFran-Gordon 69ers challenge the 4-6 Fife Fire at Balbirnie Stadium.

SanFran-Gordon 69ers were led in week 10 by a 26.00 point effort from DeMarco Murray.

Fife Fire were led in week 10 by a 23.90 point effort from Doug Baldwin.

In week 1, Fife Fire defeated SanFran-Gordon 69ers by 5.16 points, so coach Richie is looking for revenge this week. In the 2-year history of this rivalry, SanFran-Gordon 69ers hold a 1-2-0 all-time series record against Fife Fire.

69ers have been caught off guard a bit this week with byes for Julio Jones and Brandon Marshall, who have contributed quite a lot to the scores over the last 10 weeks – Jones much more so of course. Demarco Murray and Jordan Reed could well be the stars this week for Richie, and with a TD for Reed and a few hard yards, that could easily make up for the WR woes. Murray has been averaging way over 15 pts for the season, and last week even tried his hand as a QB, throwing a TD pass. Tricky though that is and fair play to Murray, he would have scored more if he’d run it in himself! Richie needs to hope that Murray is on tremendous form again this week.

Shaun’s Fire are second only in scoring to bottom placed Earthquakes, and with $92 in the bank if there was anything worth pouncing on on the waiver wire Shaun would be sure to take it – unfortunately it hasn’t panned out that way, and though he can make those bids there’s precious little to bolster his slightly struggling squad. This is a good week for the Fire’s matchup with the niners though, everyone is ranked top 30 even with a couple of players out hurt. Shaun should hoe for a decent 25 from Brees and maybe 400 yds plus 3 TDs from his 6 skill players – giving something like 58. There’s the possibility of a kicker change, and perhaps more likely a DST, there’s plenty on the wire and a bid above 3 or 4 bucks would be guaranteed to get your first choice surely?

Anyway, though Murray has shown his all round skill, that’s about it as an advantage for Richie, the pit sees this one going to Fire.

What does the rest of the league want? 187S look to be the clear leader at the moment in Hooker, so a win for Fire would suit more second place finishers than 69ers going into the black.

Kirk:

Earthquakes at Bohemians

1-9 Earlston Earthquakes play the 5-5 Earlstonian Bohemians at Bohemian Park.

Earlston Earthquakes were led in week 10 by a 9.50 point effort from Rob Kelley.

Earlstonian Bohemians were led in week 10 by a 26.52 point effort from Russell Wilson.

In week 1, Earlstonian Bohemians defeated Earlston Earthquakes by 17.18 points, so coach Cozy is looking for revenge this week. In the 4-year history of this rivalry, Earlston Earthquakes hold a 3-4-0 all-time series record against Earlstonian Bohemians.

Its officially over for the Quakes, a season lost by some bad draft decisions, bad luck and bad injuries. There’s still pride to play for though – and there’s no guarantee of that #1 draft pick. Cozy’s team looks very capable of a 100 pt game this week, Amari Copper the star and maybe a streaming QB of the wire too, Cousins perhaps? There’s little else to add CJ Prosise seems to have risen to the top of the Hawks depth chart, but perhaps not enough to gain a starting place in the Quakes lineup. You’ve just got to think that they can come together with a few TDs one week.

Bohemians are on a bit of a roll, and with Pirates on a 3 game losing streak Kirk is well up for grabs. A super deep RB set means that there are options to play any 3 of 4 top 10 RBs this week, WR is a litrle less secure, but really as long as there’s a TD, 100 yds and no injuries between Thomas and Diggs, what’s to complain about. Ally’s BOHOs are coming of a week high 130 pts and there’s no reason to think this weeks lineup couldn’t get a similar score given a bit of TD luck. Legarrette Blount may have secured his spot in the lineup with last weeks 25 pt effort, even with coach Ally’s love hate relationship with the RB. Russell Wilson could be back in favour too, could we see a settled Bohos lineup this week?

It is surely a better score than last week for the Quakes, but even then it looks likely that the Bohos will take the victory.

What does the rest of the league want? Bohemians and Pirates are tied at the top, and one of them is guaranteed through, however, with Cozy definitely out now a win for him does no one else any harm.

Shatner:

Pickaxe at Panthers

4-6 Nitten Pickaxe face off against the 4-6 Pilton Panthers at Pilton Park.

Nitten Pickaxe were led in week 10 by a 38.90 point effort from Ezekiel Elliott.

Pilton Panthers were led in week 10 by a 18.60 point effort from Jordy Nelson.

In week 1, Nitten Pickaxe defeated Pilton Panthers by 27.18 points, so coach Rab is looking for revenge this week. In the 4-year history of this rivalry, Nitten Pickaxe hold a 5-2-0 all-time series record against Pilton Panthers.

Pickaxe finally brought their 6 week losing streak to an end with an emphatic win over the Avengers in week 10 – despite a very poor showing from Matt Ryan. Big Ben looks to be back in action to cover Ryan’s bye week though so don’t expect too many changes for the Pickaxe. Gav needs a DST though so there could still be some streaming over the last 3 weeks. The Chargers were a big let down last week ,so surely there are more than 2 pts somewhere on the wire. Dez Bryant seems to be back to decent fitness and has got to grips with rookie Dak Prescott’s style so there could be a decent 70 – 100 yds from him with maybe a TD thrown in. Brandin Cooks is coming of a 98 yd game too – so there’s definitely some points possible there. Zeke is the star though – and could be the difference between a playoff spot or not – can he stay fit is the question.

Panthers need a QB to get their team going this week – there are plenty of streaming options at 15 pts or so – and of course at least one of them will get 25, picking the right one could be the problem, but Rabs final $15 should be enough to secure who he needs if he wants to make sure, perhaps more likely a lower bid or even waiting till free agency – can the Panthers coach tough it out – wait and see. Lesean McCoy is more than capable of keeping up with Zeke Elliot, and has surpassed him oin several week this year. RB1 Could decide this matchup, so both Rab and Gav will be looking to the 6.00 games for some good news. The Chiefs are the other stars for Rab this week, and could easily get 5-10 more points than anyone on the wire, so don’t leave them out of any decisions about who will eb winning this game.

All in all, it could be close, but the pickaxe rankings are just that little bit too much better than the Panthers, and should be enough to secure a win.

What does the rest of the league want? With all three Shatner teams on 4-6, these divisional matchups are going to be crucial. And it seems unlikely that Shatner will provide a wildcard slot, so no one is probably too bothered until next weeks divisional game, Nicky’s non divisional might be more important for the rest of the league.

Non Divisional

Pirates at 187s

5-5 Tweedbank Pirates, who hope to end their 3 game losing streak, face off against the 7-3 Kelso 187’s at Compton Palace.

Tweedbank Pirates were led in week 10 by a 13.30 point effort from Larry Fitzgerald.

Kelso 187’s were led in week 10 by a 19.76 point effort from Dak Prescott.

In the 2-year history of this rivalry, Tweedbank Pirates hold a 2-1-0 all-time series record against Kelso 187’s.

Pirates have not had the best of it in the last 3 weeks, coach Paul must be getting twitchy for a 100 pt game. It will come, but will it be in time to save the Pirates sinking season? Quincy Enunwa and the Jets are on a bye for Paul this week, but expect the Jets to be dropped in the morning, assuming there’s is anyone Paul can see his way to picking up. Those 2 byes should not pose too much of a problem, though the Vikings early season DST dominance seems to have faded fast. TY Hilton and Travis Kelce are the best ranked players this week though Matt Stafford looks none too shabby either at QB. Elsewhere there are certainly yds and TDs, pretty much everyone is a starter and there’s no one here who we’d expect to be limited to 40 yds or less. TDs will be the big bonus, and there’s plenty of chances of that in the Pirates lineup.

187s have bye week misery with 5 players out for week 11. Fortunately its not a divisional game for Coach Euan, though whether that’s luck or judgement I’ll leave to you to decide. Three wins on the bounce have to give Euan some confidence going in to this match, a win would just about see them through on a wildcard, but those bye week missed players are going to really hurt the scoreline. Whether there is anyone on the waivers to plug the skills gap will be up to Euan, or he could just ride out the storm and hope for a win in the next 2 divisional games. Ivory and White have got to be good for maybe 120 yds between them, a TD perhaps an unexpected bonus. Odell Beckham and Kelvin Benjamin could of course soak up any lost yards to third string RBs so its not all bad news for the 187s, both of them have just about held on to their 10 pt averages for the season.

It could go to the 187s but the signs point for a favourable wind for the Pirates.

What does the rest of the league want? 187S are nearly through – so another win for them leaves the door open for the wildcard teams.

Avengers at Tigers

5-5 Kelsae Avengers face off against the 4-6 Tranent Tigers at Polson Park.

Kelsae Avengers were led in week 10 by a 23.84 point effort from Cam Newton.

Tranent Tigers were led in week 10 by a 20.40 point effort from Antonio Brown.

Last but not least its the Avengers Tigers matchup. Avengers have to be a wee bit sore at losing last week with a decent enough score, though they were nly 5th top scorer in the week. Cam Newton is still the fit and forget QB, but those hits are still doing the damage, and so he could come to nothing in any week, so could every other QB though and he shows no sign of being stopped in his running ways. David Johnson was outgunned last week by Zeke Elliot, but that wont bother Stuart this week – any score above 20 will be a big bonus for the Avengers. Mike Evans and Jimmy Graham have the chance to score well too this week, so there’s plenty for Stuart to look out for.

However, the Tigers actually have 3 #1 ranked players to start this week, Tom Brady, Antonio brown and Steven Gostkowski. Gostkowski’s rank perhaps counts not quite in the same league as Brady’s and Brown’s but nevertheless that’s a formidable stat and one that no one else has repeated this season. Unfortunately, there are some bye week holes elsewhere in the tam, and particularly at RB we could see a bit of a struggle, perhaps 15 yds between them and maybe a TD too – that would leave Brady and Brown to have just ‘average’ weeks in order to get the Tigers to regulation. Nicky needs a DST but the waivers will surely provide something with at least 5 pts, so there’s little to worry about there, with onyl 12 bucks left though – Nicky may want to save some cash and wait till the open Waiver section.

So, although this is a non divisonal game, it could actually put either of these teams at the top of their divisions, so all to play for – though Nicky has those #1 players, Stuart is close behind at those positions and has the advantage nearly everywhere else, so we’ll give it to the Avengers.

What does the rest of the league want? Avengers are at the bottom of TJ Hooker but could still get in the wildcard mix – so the rest of the league maybe hoping for a win from Tigers.

And that’s the lot – 2 more weeks of regulation, before the season is officially over for 6 teams

View From the Pit 2016 week 10

Week 10 has arrived, and what a week.

What can you say, its just such as shock but at the same time so inevitable. How did we get here, how did some guy who’s just breezed though his entire career, ridden rough shod over everyone he deals with and been pretty much a tax exile go on to win? But enough about Jimmy, lets get to this weeks action.

Chargers and Falcons both got 43 points on the board but we’ve had the Falcons twice so lets go with this for the chargers:

time for this weeks match ups.

Panthers at Jaguars

4-5 Pilton Panthers face off against the 9-0 Jimmy’s Jerman Jaguars at Greendale Stadium.

Pilton Panthers were led in week 9 by a 18.70 point effort from Philip Rivers, Pilton Panthers can expect a 16.58 point effort from Philip Rivers in week 10.

Jimmy’s Jerman Jaguars were led in week 9 by a 26.18 point effort from Aaron Rodgers, Jimmy’s Jerman Jaguars can expect a 21.81 point effort from Aaron Rodgers in week 10.

In the 3-year history of this rivalry, Pilton Panthers hold a 1-5-0 all-time series record against Jimmy’s Jerman Jaguars.

Rab is next to face the so far unstoppable Jags. He’s picked a really bad week to do it though as 4 of his players are on a bye week. Panthers are really struggling to get anything on the board at RB this week and really need to hope that Rivers can get it going on in the air and that his wideout pairing of Jordy nelson and Jarvis Landry get at least 3 Tds between them – if that doesn’t happen its surely curtains for Rab’s Panthers. Rivers has a decent chance against a sub perfect Dolphins D so there is a chance for a 25+ score there, but that is about it. The Chiefs DST have been a reasonable source of points too though – and seem more than capable of scoring some defensive Tds, Rab’s gonna need them.

Jimmy breezed through his big bye week and is getting close to being back to full strength. Aaron Rogers and AJ Green were good pickups at the appropriate point in the draft, and are proving their worth but Tyler Eifert could be a secret weapon here, coming off a bye week but before that a 100yd and a TD game, lots of stories reckon he’s back for good. Frank Gore is a loss at RB on his bye week for sure – but there should be more than enough points to make up for his place in the rest of the team.

This looks like just another walk in the park for Jimmy – but surely his luck has to run out sometime.

187s at Tigers

6-3 Kelso 187’s challenge the 4-5 Tranent Tigers at Polson Park.

Kelso 187’s were led in week 9 by a 32.10 point effort from Melvin Gordon. Kelso 187’s can expect a 17.67 point effort from Dak Prescott in week 10.

Tranent Tigers were led in week 9 by a 22.54 point effort from Jameis Winston. Tranent Tigers can expect a 21.14 point effort from Tom Brady in week 10.

In the 2-year history of this rivalry, Kelso 187’s hold a 1-1-0 all-time series record against Tranent Tigers.

This matchup is all square after 2 years, and both teams could do with a win – Kelso could just about clinch the playoffs, or at least have set themselves up for a decent run at the divisional games. Tigers need a couple more wins to put themselves in pole for Shatner.

187s look solid this week ,Michael Crabtree on a bye but he’s been up and down like a yo yo anyway. The rest of the team are ranked about half in the top 10 and half in the 20’s, which is not too shabby. Perhaps a dilemma at flex – which could make all the difference of course. Personally I’d go with Chris Ivory over Tim Hightower, his numbers have not been stellar, but he’s been really hit by fumbles over the last 4 weeks which surely is more bad luck than a lack of skill. You’ve got to wonder if Euan knows something we don’t if he is sticking with the Giants D – there are better chances at points still on the wire

Tigers also have a decent lineup choice for week 10, no one on a bye so Tom Brady and Antonio Brown should lead out the Tigers to another 95 pts plus week. RB and TE are the shonkiest of the Tigers team, but even there there’s probably 250yds and a TD between them. Kapri Bibbs is the surprise package here, up off the waivers there’s lots of thought that he could be jumping up the depth chart in Denver, if that were to happen then it could be Grrrrreeeeaaaat for those Tigers.

All in all this looks fairly close, but the Tigers stats edge it. It could be a fascinating game with Devontae Booker on one side and Bibbs on the other – my bet is that the match up will be decided by no more than the difference in their scores – so whoever manages to convince Rick Dennison to give them more carries will decide the game. In fact the Denver at New Orleans game has nearly all the action worth anything in this match up – so expect both coaches to be glued to their seats Sunday form 6.

69ers at Bohemians

5-4 SanFran-Gordon 69ers play the 4-5 Earlstonian Bohemians at Bohemian Park.

SanFran-Gordon 69ers were led in week 9 by a 17.10 point effort from Julio Jones. In addition, DeMarco Murray was not injured before the start of his week 9 game, and contributed 14.00points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 10 due to an injured toe, which might severely limit his fantasy production. SanFran-Gordon 69ers can expect a 15.20 point effort from Carson Palmer in week 10.

Earlstonian Bohemians were led in week 9 by a 26.28 point effort from Russell Wilson. Earlstonian Bohemians can expect a 17.24 point effort from Russell Wilson in week 10,

In the 3-year history of this rivalry, SanFran-Gordon 69ers hold a 2-1-0 all-time series record against Earlstonian Bohemians.

Its still hard to work out why the 69ers are just 5-4 – they have the second highest total score, and have faced the 4th lowest points against – so where does it go wrong in those off weeks? The problem is the boom or bust nature of the team, TD dependence across the board means that the week 4 huge total has skewed the stats somewhat. Still, every one of the team are ranked within the top 20 and over half in the top 10 – so there’s always a chance for another monster score. Luck and Vinatieri are on byes so it’s second string QB Carson Palmer that’s will get the start, he’ s had a few good weeks so far and has a decent match up against the 49ers in week 10. Julio Jones is still ranked highly at WR, and he needs Matt Ryan to continue his run of from as much as Pickaxe do.

Bohemians just haven’t really got started this year. This could have something to do with having 6 RBs who’ve played for the team with an average score of over 12 – but only 3 of them are still on the roster, perhaps Ally finally realising that he can only use 3 at a time. The scoring history page on MFL looks more like a game of battleships with all the wee x’s for players that have been moved on. Ally is likely to keep on streaming this week though and its worked well enough to keep him in with a good chance at the playoffs.

All in all, this is the best ranked match up across the whole league, with both teams likely to score over 100 one of them goes away disappointed, and the Pit prediction is for that to be Ally this week.

Avengers at Pickaxe

5-4 Kelsae Avengers play the 3-6 Nitten Pickaxe at New Victoria Park.

Kelsae Avengers were led in week 9 by a 30.70 point effort from Latavius Murray. With Murray on bye in week 10, they’ll need to count on their second-string RB to carry the team this week. In addition, Jeremy Maclin was not injured before the start of his week 9 game, and contributed 0.00points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 10 due to an injured groin , which might severely limit his fantasy production. Kelsae Avengers can expect a 20.90 point effort from David Johnson in week 10.

Nitten Pickaxe were led in week 9 by a 28.76 point effort from Matt Ryan. In addition, Antone Smith was not injured before the start of his week 9 game, and contributed4.20 points, but he’s now on the injured reserve, which will prevent him from contributing at all this week. Nitten Pickaxe can expect a 18.70 point effort from Matt Ryan in week 10.

Avengers could be the big loser in the league this year – with Jimmy sewing up his place in the playoffs Stuart and Stuart have to tough it out not just with each other but also with the other second place finishers across the league. Avengers have the 4th best score in the league, more than fog – but of course Fog have that all important divisional win over the mighty Avengers. Avengers Stu really has to make these last couple of games count. Latavius Murray is a bit of a loss this week, after last week’s 30 pt monster, but David Johnson is averaging nearly 20 pts a game, so there’s not too much to miss, the 3rd string RBs will only need to get 50yards or so if Johnson brings his A game. At WR its asimilar story, Mike Evans looks set to gain enough points so that the WR2 and Flex need only just about turn up.

Coach Gav is proper Ragin’. A top 3 scoreline, but facing the most points in the league by pretty much a whole games worth. Sitting at 3-6 is just not where this team should have been – there’s been some injuries, and its unlikely a Buccs RB will get anywhere near the Pickaxe roster next year, but even with those injuries, Pickaxe have been up to regulation points nearly every week. For 6 weeks now though they’ve face unstoppable luck for their opponents. That has to stop sometime but will it be in time to make the playoffs. Those 2 divisional victories in the early weeks will help – but Pickaxe have to get to 6-7 at the very least to stand a chance. Lucky talisman Zeke Elliot has been scoring well for the Cowboys, but how can you plan for him doing so well that he’s taken off in the 4th because they simply don’t need him any more!

Ah well, this game is the turning point for either of these teams, and really it surely has to be a week for the Pickaxe.

Fog at Earthquakes

5-4 Fog on the Tyne face off against the 1-8 Earlston Earthquakes at The Cauldie.

Fog on the Tyne were led in week 9 by a 19.00 point effort from Jay Ajayi, w In addition, Matt Forte was not injured before the start of his week 9 game, and contributed15.70 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 10 due to an injured knee , which might severely limit his fantasy production. Fog on the Tyne can expect a 17.24 point effort from Joe Flacco in week 10.

Earlston Earthquakes were led in week 9 by a 29.10 point effort from Mark Ingram. Earlston Earthquakes can expect a 16.82 point effort from Jay Cutler in week 10.

In the 3-year history of this rivalry, Fog on the Tyne hold a 3-2-0 all-time series record against Earlston Earthquakes.

Fog are having a decent season, but still have a lot of work to do to qualify – almost certainly needing another 2 victories, 6-7 wont cut it in second place unless other games go their way. Derek Carr on a bye is a week having had a bit of a nightmare outing last week – not even making 10. Joe Flacco is the streamer of choice coming out for the Fog – Stuart has to hope he’s up to the challenge, he’s ranked 15th this week which is probably the best you can hope for a streamer with so many teams stashing 2 QBs. Jay Ajayi and Devonta Freeman are the best pair of RBs in the EFFL this week – neither is ranked super high – but both have a good chance at 15-20 pts, and surely they have a 10 pt floor barring injury. Gronk will bolster the scoring at TE for sure, its really only at WR that Stuart has any worries, but Edelman and Beasley both have 50 yards in them and perhaps at least 1 TD between them.

Quakes winning ways lasted just 1 whole week. Cozy has had no luck at all this season, and unfortunately that looks likely to continue for week 10 Sanders and Montgomery at WR are the only 2 lights in what appears to be a very dark tunnel for the Quakes. They are both ranked higher than any of Stuarts WR, but only just and even then – its more like 8 points each plus maybe a bonus TD. I’m being a little unfair – Jonathan Stewart and Mark Ingram would be snapped up by anyone should they fall on to the wire – they are just not quite as likely as Stuart’s pairing to get those all important TDs. Really though – there’s only a few yards in it, so if either team has a low TD week – it’s anyone’s game.

The stats say Fog for sure – but a win for Cozy would keep both Kirk and Uhura Interesting, so lets go with that.

Pirates at Fire

5-4 Tweedbank Pirates face off against the 3-6 Fife Fire at Balbirnie Stadium.

Tweedbank Pirates were led in week 9 by a 23.22 point effort from Colin Kaepernick. In addition, Todd Gurley was not injured before the start of his week 9 game, and contributed 7.40 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 10 due to an injured thigh , which might severely limit his fantasy production. Tweedbank Pirates can expect a 16.99 point effort from Andy Dalton in week 10.

Fife Fire were led in week 9 by a 24.72 point effort from Drew Brees. Fife Fire can expect a 17.91 point effort from Drew Brees in week 10.

Last but not least its the Pirates who are riding the crest of their wave at the top of Kirk division at Fire who are decidedly a damp squib at the bottom of TJ Hooker, and sitting on $92!

Pirates have had a couple of very bad weeks and though they are still in front in Kirk – they need this victory to see themselves through to the divisional weeks. Starting at the bottom, the Vikings are not ranked #1 dst for about the first time this year ,no need to panic though Paul as they are still 3rd and likely to keep most of their 10 starting points intact. Larry Fitzgerald is perhaps the best ranked of the outfield Pirates, but although they are not all top 10 – they have a real consistency across RB and WR – there’s no stand outs this week, but neither are there any real duds at least a couple of them should be getting a TD and we can imagine a good 60 yard average for RBs WRs TEs and Flex – so that’s a good 55 -60 points secured there. Andy Dalton looks set for a 18-22 pt game so Paul is looking at the best part of his regulation 95 pts without having to rely on too much luck at all.

Shaun’s Fire are really going to miss Theo Riddick and Marvin Jones this week, the 2 outfield players that have kept an average over 10 on the Fire Roster. Drew Brees should keep them in the game but elsewhere its reliant on DeAndre Hopkins and Doug Baldwin to get all of the receiving action in their games or this points tally is going nowhere fast. The whole outfield looks to be averaging more like 40 yds and less chance of TDs than the Pirates so Shaun’s Fire really needs a good bit of luck to win this week. Delanie Walker and Steve Smith are ranked just higher than their Pirates counterparts, and if either of them get a TD it will make the scoreline more flattering for Fire. Shaun’s one lifeline is that Pirates have been TD dependent.

The Pit is going with the stats though – and that’s Pirates all of the way.

And we are done for the week

View From the Pit 2016 – week 9

Week 8 is over, and one of our mammoth streaks is finally over. Unfortunately for everyone else, its the losing streak that is over, meaning we are back, just about, to having 12 horses in the race. Jimmy is guaranteed a playoff spot now with his 8 victories. The rest of the league is still wide open and there’s not much more we’ll know till at least a couple more weeks when the divisional games start up again.

New England got a massive 40 points last week, and really is there any other song to choose than this one. I’ll make an exception for my rule against live versions for this one.

Back to our action

Tigers at Jaguars

4-4 Tranent Tigers play the 8-0 Jimmy’s Jerman Jaguars at Greendale Stadium.

Tranent Tigers were led in week 8 by a 30.10 point effort from Tom Brady, but he’s on a bye in week 9, they’ll need to count on their second-string QB to carry the team this week.

Jimmy’s Jerman Jaguars were led in week 8 by a 33.84 point effort from Aaron Rodgers, who got by the.

In the 2-year history of this rivalry, Tranent Tigers hold a 0-2-0 all-time series record against Jimmy’s Jerman Jaguars.

Can Nicky be the one to finally put a stop to the Jags. Jimmy has a few bye week worries again, with his New England and Cincinnati studs on a bye week for a start. That means he’s either going to have to pick up some randoms on the waivers (though with only $5 that could be a problem or go with what he has and some players ranked down in the 40s. It’s a tougher choice than it might appear, will he go for extending the unbeaten run or just consolidate for his guaranteed playoff berth. Nicky has to hope for the latter, but Jimmy is nothing if not a competitor, so expect some movement tomorrow- even if it is after 10.00. with the Cards on a bye at the very least he needs a DST.

Tigers now lead Shatner division after last weeks win, but its a shoogly peg as far as the stats go as he is also struggling with 4 players on a bye. At least the Tigers have a full lineup if Nicky decides to ‘wait out the storm’ of his monster bye week. Jamies Winston seems a good enough sub at QB and Nicky would struggle to beat his prospects on the wavers. WRs Antonio Brown and Demaryius Thomas still look starter worthy – Though Browns numbers will be affected by a fully fit or not Big Ben at QB for the Steelers. Isaiah Crowell and Ryan Matthews look good enough for 2 RB starters and surely there is 20 points plus between them. All in all a team that looks capable of anywhere between 80 – 110 points, the bottom end of which might not be enough to win – but surely the top end would – the choice is Nicky’s whether to go for broke on the waivers.

The stats say Nicky for this one, and the Pit is going with that – but there are no guarantees.

Pirates at 69ers

5-3 Tweedbank Pirates face off against the 4-4 SanFran-Gordon 69ers at Castle Greyskull.

Tweedbank Pirates were led in week 8 by a 20.46 point effort from Andy Dalton. With Dalton on bye in week 9, they’ll need to count on their second-string QB to carry the team this week. In addition, Larry Fitzgerald was not injured before the start of his week 8 game, and contributed 7.40 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 9 due to an injured ankle , which might severely limit his fantasy production.

SanFran-Gordon 69ers were led in week 8 by a 19.40 point effort from Andrew Luck, who got by t.  Was not injured before the start of his week 8 game, and contributed 18.80 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 9 due to an injured toe , which might severely limit his fantasy production.

In the 3-year history of this rivalry, Tweedbank Pirates hold a 0-4-0 all-time series record against SanFran-Gordon 69ers.

Pirates are sitting comfortably on top of Kirk Division but there is no room for complacency, coming off a defeat and with another week of bye week woes. Paul has shored up the team again this morning on the FCFS waivers, wisely saving his bucks for maybe a more important week – either that or he was just outbid for a stud like most everyone else. Gurley and Hilton should lead the scoring as RB1 and WR1 for the Pirates – both are ranked comfortably in the top 10 and should get 20 pts plus between them – Tds a bonus. Kelce could be the ace in the hole for Paul – but as usual as a TE he will be very TD dependent – expect 80 yds though, enough to make up for perhaps a few yards short for RB2 and WR2. The real choice for Paul is flex – Perhaps the fairly consistent Darren Sproles or hot hand WR Quincy Enunwa, Sproles maybe due a TD where Enunwa has had his share? Tough call, and will come down to a bit of luck.

Richie’s 69ers have got to be disappointed at sitting at 4-4 when they have the second highest total in the league. Tough to swallow but Richie will just have to suck it up and get on with it this week. With a massive 5 players on bye (2 of them TEs!) you would think this was the chance for those pirates to steal the some thunder? It looks good for the 69ers though – niners players consistently outrank the Pirates everywhere except TE and DST – though the Vikings have shown that they are capable of making up in special teams what a fantasy team might be lacking in skill players. Julio Jones is ranked #1 WR – with the likelihood of at least some playing time for Ben Roethlisberger that seems justified, but it is a short week and a Thursday night game, so nothing guaranteed. Even with this monster bye week, Richie is still able to put up a decent team

Really you cant see past the 69ers in this game.

Bohemians at Fog

3-5 Earlstonian Bohemians face off against the 5-3 Fog on the Tyne at New St James Park.

Earlstonian Bohemians were led in week 8 by a 13.60 point effort from Stefon Diggs. In addition, Spencer Warewas not injured before the start of his week 8 game, and contributed 4.70 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 9 due to an injured concussion , which might severely limit his fantasy production.

Fog on the Tyne were led in week 8 by a 36.82 point effort from Derek Carr. Jacquizz Rodgers was not injured before the start of his week 8 game, and contributed 13.80 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 9 due to an injured foot , which might severely limit his fantasy production.

In the 3-year history of this rivalry, Earlstonian Bohemians hold a 3-2-0 all-time series record against Fog on the Tyne.

Bohemians, whether by luck, bad planning or just through playing the long game, have ended up with 5 players on a bye. There’s a team to play, but its pretty rag tag and will take some luck to get over the finish line. Despite last weekends bravado on having faith in, then completely disowning Russell Wilson, he’s still the top choice for coach ally – perhaps there was just nothing better on the waivers or maybe his erratic numbers suit the Bohemian lifestyle? Whatever, there’s better players in the lineup who could score more too. Le’Veon bell is the first and most obvious of those – expect another 150 yd game with a TD or 2 if he’s lucky on top. Spencer Ware, Peyton Barber and DeAngelo Williams surely have 30 pts between them – but one of them needs to be on the bench – who that will be is up to coach Ally, WRs have a chance at TDs as every week – but without those its looking like 12 – 15 pts between them.

Fog also have some waiver woes. Gronk is surely the biggest loss, Jack Doyle broke out in week 7 but failed to live up to the hype in week 8 – he’s ranked highly but will need to have luck on his side in Green Bay. Freeman and Forte at RB look the best pairing across the league this week, both with great chances for both yards and TDs, expect them to be the hub for scoring in the Fog lineup . However, Edelmann and Floyd will be a big gap at WR as they are both on Byes – there could be precious little at WR here- likely less yds than the Bohos and less chance of TDs – there’s no points for a half chance at a TD though – so if Fog can repeat last weeks endzone glory days Stuart will be on a winner.

The stats say Bohos for this one – but its closer than it might appear.

Pickaxe at 187s

3-5 Nitten Pickaxe, who hope to end their 5 game losing streak, play the 5-3 Kelso 187’s at Compton Palace.

Nitten Pickaxe were led in week 8 by a 24.42 point effort from Matt Ryan.

Kelso 187’s were led in week 8 by a 27.28 point effort from Dak Prescott.

Nitten Pickaxe hold a 0-2-0 all-time series recordagainst Kelso 187’s.

Pickaxe Pickaxe Pickaxe, the season started so well but this middle phase will be best forgotten. Pickaxe have faced the most points against by quite some distance though – and even with injuries and byes have stayed close to the 100 pt mark – so there’s wins to come from the Nitten crew. Jeremy Hill is on a bye week, and Gav’s RB squad is not the deepest – Smith or Asiata will get the call to suit up this week – Smith perhaps guaranteed at least a few carries for the Buccs in their likely RBBC setup. Asiata will get a boost if Jerrick Mckinnon is out for another week and would probably get the nod if that is the case. Dez Bryant was back with a vengeance last week – collecting a cool 100 yds and a TD – seems that soupfingergate has come to nothing. Brandin Cooks is proving a worthy backup too getting his regulation 10 in the last 3 games.

187s are sitting atop TJ Hooker and coming off a win. There’s some points here for sure, Dak Prescott is pretty good so far this season and shows no sign of letting the pressure get to him. That’s certainly interesting in this matchup though as Gav will score points for quite a lot of Dak’s successes though Bryant and Elliot. Devontae Booker, Melvin Gordon and Odell Beckham are the core of the team this week and should see a combined score of 45 plus – with at least a couple of TDs between them. There’s a bit of choice at Flex, not least waiver pickup Tim Hightower who could be in line for a fair few carries after coming in for the fumbling Mark Ingram.

All in all this is a decent scoring contest – making it tougher to predict – but the Pickaxe boys have it on the strength of Matt Ryan and Zeke Elliot.

Fire at Panthers

3-5 Fife Fire face off against the 3-5 Pilton Panthers at Pilton Park.

Fife Fire were led in week 8 by a 20.70 point effort from Drew Brees.

Pilton Panthers were led in week 8 by a 15.40 point effort from Mike Gillislee. In addition, DeSean Jackson was not injured before the start of his week 8 game, and contributed4.80 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 9 due to an injured head , which might severely limit his fantasy production.

Down at the more dusty end of the league – we have two teams with losing records- so at least one of them gets a boost this week coming closer to getting in to the black. Fire need a kicker before Sunday, but that shouldn’t be a problem – plenty of 5-10 players sitting on the waivers. Fire have a big edge at RB when the Panthers look to WRs to get all their points. Both Teams have pretty big bye week troubles with at least 3 players out on both sides.

Shaun’s Drew Brees is a little erratic this season, but that’s only really in how much over 18 pots he gets – which is a pretty safe place for a QB. Carlos Hyde and Theo Riddick are perhaps not the 2 top 5 RBs you’d wish for at this stage in the season, but they are more than capable of 100 yds each plus a TD so plenty of scope for points. WR is a little lighter, Baldwin and Jones are perhaps looking at 6-8 receptions between them – as long as they get a couple of 30 yarders that should see them reach a decent enough total of 15-20 and any TDs will be a bonus.

Rab’s Panthers will need some luck to beat the Fire- Jordy Nelson can provide some of that though – along with Jarvis Landry there should be 25 -30 pts at WR for Rab. RB is a bit of a struggle, and flex is the choice of a few second string or even third string players. Even with those woes, there is plenty of chance for a TD, if not mammoth yardage at RB. Gary Barnidge surely will not go the whole season without a TD – could be this week.

A tough match to call – but the Fire have the advantage of slightly more consistency and low floor, leaving Rab needing just a bit more luck than Shaun if he’s to win.

Earthquakes at Avengers

1-7 Earlston Earthquakes play the 4-4 Kelsae Avengers at Samuel Sawyer Memorial Park.

Earlston Earthquakes were led in week 8 by a 23.30 point effort from Amari Cooper. In addition, Alex Smith was not injured before the start of his week 8 game, and contributed 9.98 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 9 due to an injured head , which might severely limit his fantasy production.

Kelsae Avengers were led in week 8 by a 12.78 point effort from Cam Newton.

Last but not least the Earthquakes have finally got their win. There’s still a chance to qualify too – but things really have to go Chris’ way for that to happen. Getting a QB is the first priority before any thoughts of the playoffs – there’s guaranteed to be a 20 point plus QB on the waivers, but who is it to be? Tannehill, Fitzpatrick, Bradford – or maybe get a trade in with someone with 2 QBs, needs to go through now though. Chris also needs a kicker, but that will be easier to find. Jerrick McKinnon says he’s back – but the rankings don’t agree, it will be up to Chris to decide what is best for the Quakes, but Stewart and Ingram could be better plays even if he’s fully fit. Sanders and Cooper will surely get the start at WR and should get 15-20 pts. Quakes have to play for pride at least – and it may be time to shake things up a bit further still.

Avengers are sitting level pegging but talisman David Johnson is on a bye this week after a slightly disappointing outing last week – only in comparison to his host of 20 pt games though – he;s reached his regulation 10 pretty much all season. Avengers pulled the trigger on Charcandrick West this morning – there must have been at least a couple of other bids but coach Stuart had the deepest pockets. He’s certainly got a chance to prove his worth to the Chiefs, but may only get a week to do it. If he gets over 100 yds this week he will be hard to shift from at least a decent number of snaps going forward, and Stuart has to hope for that too. Mike Evans and Jordan Matthews are not perhaps in the same league as each other in terms of capability – but Matthews can certainly bolster the WR numbers even when Evans takes all the glory – expect 30 pts between them. Jimmy Graham has been a bit quiet after a couple of great weeks, he’ll need to do more if he’s to get a shot at draft pick of the year – but with a couple of TDs he has a shot at that still.

A balanced game, but without a QB and a Kicker to look at the crystal ball says avengers all the way.
