Week 9 is here with a bang, will there be any fireworks in the EFFL caused by the Browns Bengals Bonfire night Bash? For any of our American friends, 5th November is when we Brits celebrate someone spending months in the planning and then not quite getting then job done – reminds me of Pirates and Tigers, its also the night when small children can drag round a ‘Guy’,something resembling a legendary figure cobbled together from any old piece of junk – which incidentally also reminds me a bit of Paul and Nicky’s rosters, but I’m sure you were way ahead of me with that one
Five games left – you are probably wondering if anyone has sealed a playoff spot yet – I dont think so, but Rab has got to be close at 6-2, at the other end this a couple of teams need a mega rocket and not another damp squib, so lets get things going with a couple of must win matches
anyway, bonfire night – I cant find anything vaguely relevant on youtube without being bombarded by Katy Perry and the numerous metal cover versions of Firework – so we’ll just go with this instead:
Pirates at Jaguars
2-6 Tweedbank Pirates, who hope to end their 5 game losing streak, challenge the 5-3 Jimmy’s Jerman Jaguars at Die Walküre Stadion.
Jaguars were led in week 8 by a 30.34 point effort fromTom Brady. Keenan Allen was not injured before the start of his week 8 game, and contributed 9.50 points, but he’s now on the injured reserve, which will prevent him from contributing at all this week. Jimmy’s Jerman Jaguars can expect a 21.99 point effort from Tom Brady in week 9
This is the first game between these two franchises in 2015, and is sure to be a classic showdown. In the 2-year history of this rivalry, Tweedbank Pirates hold a 2-1-0 all-time series record against Jimmy’s Jerman Jaguars.Paul needs to hope that he can continue his slightly in the black record against Jimmy. It could all be over bar the shouting at 2 – 7 you’ll almost certainly need to be at least even money to have any chance of a playoff spot – though Kirk is still the most open of the divisions. Jimmy on the other hand is riding high, but only just in the super competative Uhura league, anyone could be top after week 9.
The numbers don’t look good for Paul – Jimmy has a good 15 points in the spread, not helped because Paul has no one else to turn to at RB or WR with everyone else on a bye week. The Bengals DST looks a safe option to get things started on Bonfire night but after that Gostkowski is a lone star against a set of formidable studs lining up for Jimmy – sorry Paul but the pit is going with the numbers on this one and its a win for the jags.
Fog at Tigers
4-4 Fog on the Tyne challenge the 2-6 Tranent Tigers at Polson Park.
Fog were led in week 8 by a 22.96 point effort from Joe Flacco. With Flacco on bye in week 9, they’ll need to count on their second-string QB to carry the team this week. In addition, Brandon Marshall was not injured before the start of his week 8 game, and contributed 10.80 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 9 due to an injured ankle , which might severely limit his fantasy production. Fog on the Tyne can expect a 14.06 point effort from Tyrod Taylor in week 9.
Tigers were led in week 8 by a 17.30 point effort from Brian Hoyer. WithHoyer on bye in week 9, they’ll need to count on their second-string QB to carry the team this week.Tranent Tigers can expect a 13.79 point effort from Blake Bortles in week 9.
This is the first game between these two franchises in 2015. Struggling tigers look to have a better shot at a comeback than the Pirates. Tyler Eifert is a lonely firework in this game, and Stuart will look for a solid 8 point TE performance there. Elsewhere in the lineups Tigers have a distinct advantage at RB whilst the WR predictions are much closer, depending who you look at. A lot rides on whether Brandon Marshall is fit to play. This game is bookended by TEs as Nicky’s antonio Gates will finish things off on Monday night. It could be close but the pit is going with the Tigers to get back on track.
Fire at Panthers
5-3 Fife Fire challenge the 6-2 Pilton Panthers at Pilton Park.
Fire were led in week 8 by a 18.02 point effort from Cam Newton. Le’Veon Bellwas not injured before the start of his week 8 game, and contributed 5.80 points, but he’s now on the injured reserve, which will prevent him from contributing at all this week. Fife Fire can expect a 18.17 point effort from Cam Newton in week 9.
This is the first game between these two franchises in 2015, a top table tussle if there ever was one, last week these 2 were level pegging, but now the Panthers have stretched a game up. Panthers have a wee bit of a bye week problems but still look to be strong across the lineup. Fire will be putting themselves out with the tears after the loss of #1 pick Le’veon Bell, but they could still surprise with the second string. There could be a couple in action for the Shaun on Bonfire night – that has to be an omen surely? Bernard and Benjamin are not guaranteed a place in the lineup though, but Bernard will surely play and get the Fire off too a burning start. Panthers have plenty of possibilities to catch the Fire though on Sunday abd will be looking to Martin and Stewart to chase those numbers down. Its not over for either team till Tuesday morning though and Monday looks like it could be sleepless – Rab will need to be no more than 10 behind to think that he has it in the bag with Pip Rivers, as Robbie Gould has kicked some pretty serious points so far this year. The Pit is going with Fire to even things out at the top.
187s at Pickaxe
3-5 Kelso 187’s play the 5-3 Nitten Pickaxe at New Victoria Park.
“187’s were led in week 8 by a 20.10 point effort from Julian Edelman, who got by the Miami Dolphins defense for 81 receiving yards and 2 receiving TDs. Ladarius Green was not injured before the start of his week 8 game, and contributed 1.00 points, but he’s listed as questionable in week 9 due to an injured ankle , which might severely limit his fantasy production. Kelso 187’s can expect a 16.85 point effort from Eli Manning in week 9.
This is the first game between these two franchises in 2015, and is sure to be a hard-fought struggle. Its a monster bye week for the Hawks heavy Pickaxe and Gav has had to think hard about picking up so backup, but the Pickaxe do have a full lineup at least. Euan’s WR trio team continue to bne very highly ranked, all with 12 point predictions on MFL. Pickaxe look to the RB squad to even those numbers out – Ivory and Freeman have been leaving 1st round pick Lynch in the shade for a few weeks anyhow – so he might not be greatly missed. Week 9 could also see Desean Jackson back in action -though its not ideal against the Pats. Speaking of which the Pats DST could be Gav’s high scorers this week. With no fireworks on Thursday night it’s another Monday night nailbiter as both teams wait to the wee small hours to settle this one – Jay Cutler as a waiver QB pickup for the Pickaxe and Danny Woodhead Running for 187s. MFL have it pretty close, but a few more waiver shuffles and lineup choices could sort this one out – its a win for Pickaxe
Bohemians at 69ers
4-4 Earlstonian Bohemians face off against the 3-5 SanFran-Gordon 69ers at Castle Greyskull.
Bohemians were led in week 8 by a 31.00 point effort from Odell Beckham. Earlstonian Bohemians can expect a 17.17 point effort from Andy Dalton in week 9.
This is the first game between these two franchises in 2015, and is sure to be a epic battle. In the 2-year history of this rivalry, Earlstonian Bohemians hold a 1-1-0 all-time series record against SanFran-Gordon 69ers. On the face of it this is a top to bottom challenge, but both teams are in their respective positions thanks to a few points in overall scores or divisional math ups – wither could climb or drop a place this week. As usual The Gronk is a highlight for the 69ers, he’s one of the only 1st round picks still standing and living up to his billing. Elsewhere it looks like bohos all the way – Richie is still to find a kicker and that of course could boost his chances, but with who is left on the waivers it will be boom or bust for sure. Richie has 4 players on a bye and that is really hurting especially at RB where he very little to celebrate. Bohos on the other hand have Gary Barnidge looking like one of the pickups of the season , albeit a bit late on but he’s scored more in each of his 3 weeks for the Bohos than coach aaly had seen for the rest of the season. The numbers imply do not add up to 69 this week and it will surely be a win for the bohemians.
Earthquakes at Avengers
4-4 Earlston Earthquakes, who hope to extend their 4 game winning streak, face off against the 5-3 Kelsae Avengers at Samuel Sawyer Memorial Park.
Earthquakes were led in week 8 by a 29.56 point effort fromCarson Palmer, With Palmer on bye in week 9, they’ll need to count on their second-string QB to carry the team this week. In addition, Khiry Robinson was not injured before the start of his week 8 game, and contributed 1.70points, but he’s now on the injured reserve, which will prevent him from contributing at all this week. Earlston Earthquakes can expect a 19.19 point effort from Todd Gurley in week 9.
This is the first game between these two franchises in 2015. Last but not least the resurgent Earthquakes and Avengers, just a month ago the Quakes had probably all but written themselves off and the Avengers were looking by far the lesser of the 2 rookies – how things have changed! The big bye week hits Avengers hardest though as they lose two of their deep WR roster. Earthquakes suffer too but its much more spread out and coach Chris will look to Todd Gurley to continue an outstanding run of form at RB. Coach Stuart just needs his rag tag bunch to hold together for this week – and he has a good chance with his RB trio intact, there’s no one standout in the 3 but that is the hidden strength – there’s surely 2 TDs between the 3 of them. This is a tough call, but the Pit is going for Earthquakes to continue their winning ways in week 9.
Thats yer lot for for bonfire week – remember its better to burn out than fade away folks!
